Amy, first of her name, mother of chickens, foe of hawks, protector of the backyard garden. 🤺🥷

I let the ladies out yesterday for an hour and already in that time saw two hawks scoping out the snack buffet. I was able to get them all back inside in time but I felt like Aragorn in LOTR seeing the Nazgûl 😆

*I would never actually harm a hawk obviously!! And we will be building either a chicken tunnel or a chicken tractor for more protected free ranging opportunities*

For the longest time, I didn’t feel like a “real gardener” bc I get the heebie jeebies if an insect startles me. Like even if I KNOW in my heart of hearts they’re good, I still get spooked!! But ticks? That’s a whole different level of bug paranoia. There’s no good way to tell me you think there might be a tick on me — I was cleaning the pond and filming a video and kristian came out to see me and thought he saw one…so I captured what usually only he sees when I’m gardening 😆😆😆

Part of me is VERY embarrassed that I have this reaction but if there are any other scaredy cats out there, you are not alone!! And you’re still a real gardener even if you run and scream when you have a bug on you 😂

This koi pond was here when we moved in, fish included! I’ve gotten quite attached to them, and always love starting the pond back up in the springtime. It’s also a favorite hang spot for all of the birds that nest all around our property, and they love to come take little baths in the waterfall. 🥹

Please don’t ask me about the fish though I don’t know anything about them aside from that we have managed to keep most of them alive for four years lol sometimes a heron comes and grabs some little ones, but that kind of keeps the population in check because I think the little ones have babies? I don’t really know how that happens but there’s always some tiny ones and I don’t know where they come from. 😆😆

When we discussed taking down this vinyl fence around the existing outdoor shower area…I don’t think he realized that I meant take it down the very same day we decided to eventually take it down lol but when I get a bee in my bonnet about something there’s no stopping me!!

(Video is from November 2023 and if you’re wondering, is the fence completely removed? The answer is no it’s not because I thought it was gonna be way easier to remove the whole thing than it actually is. Classic case of a Virgo starting a project and then neglecting it as soon as it gets tricky. 😆)
